This weekend's release of Disney's live-action re-imagining of Dumbo will serve as the third new #1 in as many weeks at the domestic box office. Right behind it, last weekend's #1 film, Us, and Disney's holdover release of Captain Marvel will continue to perform well, helping deliver a strong March at the domestic box office. Meanwhile, Pure Flix will debut Unplanned and Neon releases Harmony Korine's The Beach Bum, both in over one thousand locations. Looking at a #1 finish is Disney's latest live-action re-imagining of one of their classic animated features in the Tim Burton-directed Dumbo, which takes the 64-minute animated 1941 feature and delivers a nearly two-hour retelling. Disney will debut the film in over 4,200 theaters and forecasting the film's opening weekend performance is not at all clear cut. The studio is anticipating a $50+ million debut while other sources are suggesting a debut close to $60-65 million. The critical response

Tom Hanks to Play Elvis Presley’s Manager in Baz Luhrmann’s Next Film (Exclusive)
Tom Hanks is in negotiations to play Elvis Presley’s iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Warner Bros. biopic[/link] about the legendary musician.

Luhrmann will direct the movie. He also penned the script with Craig Pearce.

Parker discovered Presley when he was just an unknown and quickly moved in as his lone representation. Parker was responsible for various milestones, including Presley’s record deal with RCA and his successful acting career.

While Luhrmann always envisioned a star for Parker’s part, he wants a newcomer for the role of Presley. The director has begun meeting with talent for the part.

Insiders say a budget is still being ironed out, but Hanks’ commitment will urge the studio to push the project forward. Luhrmann hopes to get the pic into production sometime this year.

Hanks is no stranger to portraying real-life figures like astronaut Jim Lovell in “Apollo 13,

In its letter to Carpenter, the directors’ guild said that each of his films “enhances the irresistible delight of staging. In each of them, the work on space, on what is off-screen, on the visible and on the invisible, is constantly renewed and regenerated in order to redefine fear – a fear that is always prone to trigger emotions in characters and actors who have now become iconic,” including Jamie Lee Curtis, Adrienne Barbeau and Kurt Russell.

‘The Oa’ Season 2: What the Heck Just Happened? Plus, 15 Other Unanswered Questions
Warning: Do not read any further if you don’t want to read spoilers for Season 2 of “The Oa.”

When Netflix released the first season of “The Oa” way back in 2016, its big, mind-boggling ending left viewers with far more questions than answers. And more than two years later, Season 2 leaned hard into that same pattern, going even bigger and more mind-boggling.

This time around, Season 1’s philosophical musings about faith and storytelling were replaced with surprising plot twists befitting the season’s more film noir-esque storyline and one unexpectedly meta conclusion.

Many of the questions lingering from Season 1 — Was Prairie’s tale about being held captive real or just a story? Is she actually an angel? — were dispatched within the first 45 minutes of the second season, but by the last five a whole new set of questions had arisen to take their place.

Namely, what the heck just happened?

      Film Review: ‘The Last’

In August 2018, Jakiw Palij — a former concentration camp guard identified as “the last known World War II Nazi living in the U.S.” — was deported to his homeland, fully 15 years after a federal court had stripped him of his citizenship. No country, not even Germany, wanted to accept him, and so he remained in America until Trump booted him out last year.

But was Palij, who died in January, really the last of his kind? What if there were others? What if it turned out that there was a Nazi living undetected in your own family? These are but some of the head-scratching questions in Jeff Lipsky’s “The Last,” the latest wall-to-wall talkathon from the hyper-literate writer-director, a former independent film distributor who began his career as an advocate for other tough-sell voices and has become somewhat prolific making a frustratingly amateurish kind of low-budget feature.
